Description

Vintage folding banquet chairs by Fritz & Co., featuring brass-tone metal frames and rust velvet upholstery.

These chairs immediately stood out for their thoughtful structure and elegant silhouette. Beneath the seat is a striking X-brace support, a structural detail used in earlier commercial banquet seating that adds both stability and a strong graphic element to the design. The seat panel sits slightly inset within the frame, creating a subtle “floating seat” effect that gives the chair an unexpectedly light and architectural presence.

The gently arched back crest and curved base rail soften the geometry of the frame, while the warm brass finish and rust velvet upholstery elevate what was originally functional hospitality furniture into something far more decorative. Chairs like these were produced for hotel ballrooms, restaurants, and event spaces where durability and visual appeal were equally important.

They fold flat for storage but feel sturdy and well-balanced when opened.

Today they work beautifully as accent seating, occasional dining chairs, vanity chairs, or as decorative seating for styling and editorial spaces.
