Vintage 1980s Postmodern Biomorphic Gray Fossiliferous Limestone Coffee Table

A striking vintage 1980s Postmodern coffee table with a thick, solid-stone top in a graceful biomorphic form. The rounded edge gives the substantial slab a sculptural, almost floating appearance.

The top rests on two separate hollow triangular stone pedestal bases. The bases may be rotated to subtly alter the table’s architectural profile and separate from the top for transport.

Crafted from cool gray fossiliferous limestone, the surface is richly detailed with natural pits, shell fragments, star-like fossil polyp impressions, and organic mineral variation throughout. The stone retains its natural, unfilled surface, highlighting the character and texture of the material. The restrained palette and absence of metal accents give the piece a quietly Brutalist, organic-modern character.

Natural tonal variation is present throughout the stone, including subtle differences between the two pedestal bases. Minor scuffing, surface variation, and wear are consistent with age and use. The stone appears to be unsealed; as with any porous natural stone, coasters are recommended and spills should be wiped promptly. The tabletop lifts from the bases for transport. This is an exceptionally heavy piece and requires two people for loading and unloading. Upright, well-padded transport is recommended.
