Description
Mixed metal wall sculpture by Curtis Jere, dated 1972. Often identified as “Rainy Day at the Bus Stop,” the dimensional composition depicts a group of figures gathered beneath umbrellas alongside a park bench, lamppost, fence, and dramatically branching tree.
Constructed from welded and torch-finished metal with brass, copper, and darkened patinated surfaces, the sculpture has remarkable depth and variation in texture. Individual figures and umbrellas are rendered in layered metals with subtle red accents, while the open framework of the fence and tree creates shifting shadows when displayed against a wall.
A particularly evocative example of C. Jeré’s narrative wall sculpture, combining the studio’s characteristic metalwork with an unusually atmospheric urban scene.
Signed C. Jere and dated ’72 lower right.
Dimensions: 18”W × 24”H × 5”D
Very good vintage condition with oxidation, patina, surface variation, and wear consistent with age and the artist’s materials and methods. Please see photographs for details. Structurally sound and ready to hang.
