Description
A fabulous 1950s chrome-plated Pincherette ashtray featuring two stylized, arched-back cats facing one another. Their raised, curling tails were cleverly designed to serve as cigarette rests, while the mirrored tray creates a doubled reflection of the figures.
Made in the United States, the underside bears U.S. design patent numbers 98,596 and 167,703. The earlier design patent was issued in 1936 to Ray R. Hutcheson and assigned to Diecasters, Inc.; the second was issued in 1952, dating this example to the 1950s or later.
An expressive piece of vintage American design that works equally well as a decorative catchall, ring dish, or small vanity tray. Its compact scale and confrontational cats give it an outsized presence on a desk, bar cart, dresser, or coffee table.
Approximately 7.25 in. W × 4.5 in. D × 2.25 in. H
Very good vintage condition. The chrome remains bright and reflective, with light surface scratches and small signs of age and use. The cat figures are intact and firmly attached. The underside shows wear to the original protective pads, with some pads worn or absent. Please review all photographs, which form part of the condition description.
